Hui Pun Hing Scholarships for Postgraduate Research

In 1990, Dr Hui Wai Haan (BA 1932, MSc 1954, LLD 1981), Senior Lecturer in Chemistry at the University of Hong Kong until her retirement in 1973, established the “Hui Pun Hing Endowment Fund” in memory of his late father Mr Hui Pun Hing. The Endowment fund awards postgraduate scholarships in sciences (including medicine) and provides support for the Department of Chemistry and the University Libraries. The Hui Wai Haan Chair of Chemistry was also established in the same year.

Purpose and Scope

Two postgraduate research scholarships in the sciences, including medicine, will be awarded every year.  The scholarships shall be awarded to candidates holding a relevant honours degree to enable them to pursue at the University postgraduate research studies in the field of science, including medicine, leading to the degree of PhD.

Preference will be given to candidates who hold a first degree from an overseas university and who are normally resident in Hong Kong; and, subject to the foregoing, preference will be given to candidates whose interest is in Chemistry.

The scholarships shall be awarded on the basis of (i) academic merit (ii) the candidates' research proposals.
