HSBC Social Work Scholarship
On the Donor
In 1965, in commemoration of its Centenary, the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) donated some investments to The University of Hong Kong to establish scholarships to attract some of the best undergraduates and students entering the University into a career in social work in Hong Kong. Since then, the annual income of these investmens has been deployed to support social work students in the form of scholarships and later extended to bursaries from 1982 and travel awards from 1987.
In 2014, a review of the scope of HSBC Social Work Scholarship was carried out and it has been agreed that the Fund shall be deployed for the awarding of scholarships solely, and travel awards if deemed necessary.
